Hotel with tradition. St. Regis Washington D.C.

Hello everyone,

I would love to share with you a short story.

Recently I was visiting Washington D.C. (more to come about another hotel and the city soon on my blog) and saw many wonderful hotels. Most of them with interesting history and located in beautiful areas.

I had an amazing visit to the St.Regis Hotel. This historic property was built in 1926 and is  located very close to the white house and most of the government buildings.

When approaching the hotel, I felt like I was entering a castle. I was impressed with the luxurious and stunning interior. Everyone around me was very nice, guests as well as hotel staff. I had a little chat with the bellboy and a front office person who ask me if I was visiting the hotel. When I said that I was taking pictures for my blog, he told me to stay for 6pm, as they  have a beautiful tradition of opening a bottle of champagne with a sword. I was very intrieged  and decided to stay. I had never heard about this tradition (I love being a hotelier as I learn something new every day).

At 6pm a bartender came with champagne and a few hotel guest gathered in the lobby to admire this occasion. They welcomed everyone first and explained what they were doing.  Opening a bottle of champagne with a blade (sabring) is not easy and requires practice. Watching the bartender perform this task was so much fun! After the sabring, every guest attending got a free glass of champagne (thank you St. Regis 🙂 ).

Check out the video I took while spectating this event.

I would also like to show you some of the pictures I took in the lobby area. Just enjoy the beauty of this hotel!

Have you ever been there ?
